Connection availability, 24 October 2026: new Shopify connections are coming soon. Shopify setup instructions apply to existing connected stores. For new onboarding, choose WooCommerce or Custom API on Pro or above.

Set up an AI sales agent for your store

Zubby AI is a 24/7 sales agent and shopping assistant that lives inside Shopify, WooCommerce, and custom or headless storefronts. It retrieves from the catalog and knowledge you connect, answers shopper questions, recommends products, and supports configured recovery workflows. This page gets you from signup to a controlled test conversation; connection and indexing time varies by platform.

For your team, Merchant Askanswers questions from the selected store’s connected dashboard metrics over supported 7-, 30- or 90-day windows and can propose campaign plans. Review the data window and resulting draft: approval does not send a broadcast or activate a journey. Merchant requests do not consume shopper conversation credits; separate daily plan limits apply.

What Zubby does for you

Think of Zubby as a senior product expert who never sleeps. It does four things really well:

  • Answers product questions in context - sizing, materials, compatibility, shipping, returns - grounded in your real catalog and policies. Test important answers before launch and review conversations regularly; AI can still make mistakes.
  • Recommends what to buy - using semantic retrieval across your products, customer reviews, and order history. The agent can compare items, build bundles, and check inventory live.
  • Rescues carts and browse sessions - drafting on-brand emails (and SMS / WhatsApp, on plans that include them) when a shopper drops off without checking out.
  • Hands off to humans on demand - when an issue is out of scope, the AI routes the conversation to your inbox with full context.

Prerequisites

You need three things before connecting a store. Setup time depends on access, approvals, catalog size and integration work. Check each prerequisite before you begin.

  1. A Zubby account - sign up at /register. A new store starts in the internal Starter setup state with a 25-conversation allowance. Packaged Growth features remain locked until checkout. Eligible merchants can start a 14-day Growth trial from Billing.
  2. Admin access to your store - for Shopify, the user installing the app needs the Apps permission. For WooCommerce, you need to be a WordPress administrator. For a custom store, you need a developer who can make server-side API requests and add the widget embed to the storefront.
  3. One open browser tab - Shopify’s OAuth flow can redirect to a window that gets blocked by an aggressive ad blocker. Pause it for the install if you’re on a hardened browser.

Multi-store accounts

If you run multiple storefronts, create one Zubby account and add each store as a separate tenant. Billing and analytics are scoped per store, so you can compare performance side by side from the same login.

Setup checkpoints

The fastest path looks like this. Each step links to a deeper page if you want full detail; otherwise just follow the numbered list.

  1. Create your account

Sign up with email and password, or with Google sign-in where enabled. You’ll verify your email - via the emailed link or a 6-digit code - before the dashboard unlocks. Detailed walkthrough at Create your account.
  2. Connect a store

The onboarding wizard asks for your platform right after signup - WooCommerce (a WordPress plugin that pairs from your WordPress admin), or Custom/API. Adding another store later happens from Stores → Add store. See Connect your first store.
  3. Wait for the first sync

Shopify and WooCommerce use their connector flows to load supported store data. Custom stores mint a Pro-or-higher write key and push products and orders through the public API. Zubby then generates embeddings so the agent can retrieve products by meaning. Verify representative records and search results instead of relying on a timer.
  4. Test the widget

Use the sandbox chat at the end of onboarding, or open Growth → Widget Designer for a live preview. Type a question your customers might ask - for example, “Do you ship to Canada?” or “What’s the best gift under $50?”. You should get an answer using the expected product or policy context. Latency varies by provider, retrieval, network, and tool calls; correctness matters more than a fixed response-time target.
  5. Embed it on your storefront

For Shopify, enable the App Embed block in your active theme. For WooCommerce, the plugin injects the widget. For custom or headless sites, add the <zubby-widget> web component with the store ID and browser-safe widget key. See Embed codes.

What good looks like

After real shopper or controlled test usage, you should see signals in Dashboard → Analytics:

  • Conversation volume - the number of shopper conversations the AI handled, trending up as traffic discovers the widget.
  • AI-attributed revenue - orders attributable to a Zubby conversation, with the assisted funnel visible under Analytics → Funnel.
  • An emptying gaps inbox - AI Training → Knowledge Gaps lists questions the AI couldn’t answer well. A growing list means it’s time to add policies or FAQs to the knowledge base.
