This is the short version for merchants. Each step links to the full documentation if you want the detail.
1. Before you start
- WordPress 6.4 or newer, PHP 8.2 or newer, and WooCommerce 8.0 or newer. Check the plugin release notes for the tested version range.
- An administrator login for WordPress.
- A recent backup. If you have a staging site, try it there first.
2. Install the plugin
In your Zubby dashboard open Imports → WooCommerce and click Download Zubby AI plugin (.zip). In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip, click Install now, then Activate. Later updates arrive through the normal WordPress plugin updates screen.
3. Connect your store
Open Zubby AI in the WordPress admin sidebar and click Log in & Connect (or Create account if you are new). Sign in to Zubby, click Approve Connection, and you are sent back to WordPress with the store connected. There are no keys to copy. See Connect to Zubby for what happens during the handshake.
4. Check the first sync
The first sync runs in the background as soon as you connect: products and variants, shipping zones, past orders and customers, and your store pages for the knowledge base. You can leave the page while it runs. When it finishes, open a few products under Catalog in Zubby and compare price, stock, and variants with WooCommerce. If it stalls, see Troubleshooting.
5. Check the widget
Once the store is connected, the plugin adds the chat widget to your storefront. You can switch it off with Enable widget in the plugin settings. If the launcher does not appear, a page cache or script optimization plugin is the usual cause; see Widget not loading and the widget bridge notes.
6. Make it sound like your store
- Settings → AI: pick a tone, choose which conversion flows to use, and review the order actions. On WooCommerce the AI opens a ticket for your team instead of cancelling, editing, or refunding an order itself. Shipping-address changes are a separate supported plugin action, on by default, requiring verified ownership, an unfulfilled order, and confirmation. See AI setup and behavior.
- Widget Designer: match colors, launcher, and copy to your brand. See Customize your AI chat widget.
- Knowledge: your store pages are imported. Add anything shoppers ask that is not written down yet, such as sizing, warranty, or delivery times. See Train your AI chatbot on store policies.
7. Test before launch
On your storefront, ask the questions your shoppers ask:
- A specific product, a vague need (“a gift for a runner”), and a comparison.
- Sizing, shipping, and returns. Check the answers match your policies.
- “Where is my order?” using a real test order.
- “Can I talk to a person?” Then find the ticket in Inbox on the Tickets tab.
If an answer is wrong, fix the source (the product, the knowledge base, or a rule) rather than rewording the question. How the AI works explains where to look.
